Walter Chrysler was drafted in to overhaul the ailing Maxwell-Chalmers company in the early 1920s and by late 1924 he had taken over the company and began to produce the first Chrysler automobile.  He began an intensive regime that saw Chrysler soar to second place in U.S sale for 10 years.  He segmented his market and produced cars for different ends of the spectrum.  In 1987 Chrysler acquired the Jeep brand and 10 years later Chrysler Jeep arrived at Border Cars.  It is a prominent feature of the Border Cars history as it pinpoints expansion with purpose built showrooms in Dumfries and Carlisle for these franchises.  Chrysler operates out of 2 sites at Border Cars, one in Dumfries and one in Carlisle.
